Arrancó la segunda década del siglo XXI y con ella la construcción de una respuesta global que asegure el bienestar de la naturaleza y de la humanidad. Para 2030 deberán cumplirse los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible -acordados en 2015- y cuya consecución depende en gran parte de ecosistemas y de un medio ambiente saludables.
En este contexto directivos de entidades ambientales regionales y globales se encontrarán el 28 de enero en el evento virtual Diálogo de Líderes: Resultados del III Congreso de Áreas Protegidas de Latinoamérica y el Caribe (III CAPLAC) en el que se lanzará la versión final y completa de la Declaración de Lima, documento trabajado de manera participativa y consensuada por más de 3 mil asistentes, colaboradores y seguidores del III CAPLAC efectuado en octubre de 2019 en Perú.
La Declaración establece una visión y es una hoja de ruta para la gestión regional de espacios protegidos y conservados durante los próximos diez años. Tiene la impronta de un amplio espectro de actores dentro del cual se subraya la presencia de pueblos indígenas, comunidades locales, colectivos de mujeres, jóvenes y guardaparques.
Organizaciones ambientales de escala global estarán presentes en este evento virtual. Han confirmado su intervención Bruno Oberle, director general de la UICN, Elizabeth Maruma Mrema, secretaria ejecutiva del CDB, y Carlos Manuel Rodríguez, director ejecutivo del GEF. También participarán presidentes y presidentas de las Comisiones de Expertos de la UICN, así como directivos y altos representantes de entidades cooperación, de la Unión Europea y de los sistemas nacionales de áreas protegidas de Latinoamérica y el Caribe.
El Diálogo tendrá una duración de dos horas con una sección de exposiciones y un posterior conversatorio con invitados especiales. Durante el evento, además de la Declaración de Lima, se compartirán otros dos documentos finales del III CAPLAC: la Memoria Técnica y el Informe General. Estas dos publicaciones recogen la experiencia acumulada y sistematizada producto de miles de horas de trabajo voluntario de expertas y expertos ambientales involucrados en la organización de aquel Congreso.
El Diálogo, que se desarrollará en español y contará con traducción simultánea al inglés, es organizado por miembros latinoamericanos de la Comisión Mundial de Áreas Protegidas de la UICN con el apoyo de la iniciativa Vital Sites. La comunidad de la conservación y todas las personas interesadas en conocer más sobre la Declaración de Lima están invitadas a unirse previa inscripción.

Leaders Dialogue: Protected Areas for Well-being and Sustainable Development in 2030
The second decade of the 21st century has begun, and with it the construction of a global response that ensures nature and humanity's well-being. By 2030, the Sustainable Development Goals - agreed in 2015 - and whose achievement depends mainly on healthy ecosystems and environment, will have to be met.
In this context, managers of regional and global environmental organizations will gather on January 28 in the Leaders Dialogue: Outputs of the III Latin American and Caribbean Congress of Protected Areas (III CAPLAC) in October 2019 Peru to launch the final version of the Lima Declaration. This document has been built in a participatory and consensual manner by more than 3 thousand attendees, collaborators during the III CAPLAC.
The Declaration sets out a vision and is a roadmap for the regional management of protected and conserved areas over the next ten years. It reflects the vision of a broad spectrum of actors, including Indigenous Peoples, local communities, women's groups, youths, and park rangers.
Global-scale environmental organizations will attend this virtual event. Bruno Oberle, General Director of IUCN, Elizabeth Maruma Mrema, Executive Secretary of the CBD, and Carlos Manuel Rodríguez, Chair of the Global Environment Facility, Chairs of IUCN Commissions, as well as leaders and senior representatives of cooperation entities, the European Union and national protected area systems of Latin America and the Caribbean will also participate.
The Leaders Dialogue will last for two hours and include an exhibition section and a conversation with special guests. In addition to the Lima Declaration, the Technical Report and the General Report of the III CAPLAC will be shared. These two publications capture the accumulated and systematized experience of thousands of hours of volunteer work by experts involved in the III CAPLAC.
In Spanish and with simultaneous translation into English, the Dialogue is organized by Latin American members of the IUCN Commission on Protected Areas with the support of the Vital Sites initiative.
